QUESTION:   My daughter's team practices many short sided drills, so that all the players receive more opportunities for touches on the ball. However, in games a result might be weaker, shorter, never into space and inaccurate passes because they have not practiced situations encountered in "real life". Would it be beneficial for there to be balance so they learn how to make good longer passes (and for the defenders to figure out how to defend against them)?
ANSWER: Thank you for your question. What you are asking is why don't we play the ball in the air for that age group. Well there are 2 kinds - one is ground passes the other one is air ball. Ground passes is about 20 to 25 yard pass - it is the most accurate pass for this age group. Air ball must be served about 30 to 40 yards. How many youth players can serve ball over distance with precision? Not too many. Also weight training needs to be developed in order to get more leg strength to serve appropriate air ball.

QUESTION:   I'm coaching U-9 and I want to know what the main areas of fundamentals should be for practice and what skills should they posses by the end of the season?
ANSWER: As per the curriculum, here are a few things the girls should be working on
regularly:
1. Speed ladder (footwork, agility, balance & coordination)
2. Jump rope (explosion, coordination, footwork/balance & cardiovascular
exercise)
3. Juggling (first touch, ball control, balance & coordination)
4. 1v1 fakes and feints (confidence on the ball, vision, balance &
explosiveness)
5. Technical skills (dribbling, passing, receiving, proper ball striking
mechanics)
6. Small sided games that promote using 1v1 fakes & feints. Focus should
first be on attempting the move without fear of losing the ball or making a
mistake. Failure at training is OK.

QUESTION:  My 7 and 4 year old daughters want to learn to play soccer, but I got no idea how to teach them. What do you suggest as far as begginers learning to play?
ANSWER: At this age the ball itself is  the biggest opponent.the activities are
heavily oriented towards dribbling.giving the players as many touches on the ball as possible in their early years. You can also come and pickup a free dvd at the rage office for young players 5-7 years old.
